Is Ecycle for Good a nonprofit?
No. Ecycle for Good is a private social enterprise. Our mission is to convert used computers into funds for charities to help them accomplish their missions. help charities raise funds by giving businesses and individuals a simple way to donate reusable technology. We operate as a financially sustainable business while creating positive social impact.
For Computer Donors
What happens to my donated devices?
Your devices are received by Ecycle for Good or a certified refurbishment partner. They are securely data wiped, tested, refurbished, and resold.
Is shipping and data wiping free?
Yes. If your device is functional and eligible for reuse, we'll provide a prepaid UPS or USPS shipping label. Secure data wiping is included at no cost.
What can I donate?
We accept functional laptops, tablets, and smartphones that can be refurbished and reused. In general, devices less than seven years old qualify. If your device is broken or no longer reusable, please recycle it through a certified local electronics recycler.
Do I need to erase my data before shipping my device?
No. Every device is professionally data wiped before refurbishment. If you'd prefer to erase your data yourself, you're welcome to do so. A free option is KillDisk, which securely removes data from your device.
How should I package my donation?
Place your device in a sturdy cardboard box with protective packing material such as crumpled paper, newspaper, or bubble wrap. Attach the prepaid shipping label to the outside of the box and drop it off with the carrier.
Should I include accessories?
Chargers are welcome but not required. To reduce shipping costs, please do not include laptop bags, software, manuals, or other accessories that are not needed to operate the device.
What happens if my device isn't functional?
Our goal is to collect reusable devices. If we receive a device that cannot be refurbished, it will be responsibly recycled through an R2 or e-Stewards certified electronics recycler.
Do you offer pickup service?
Yes, for businesses donating 10 or more computers. Donations should be boxed or palletized before pickup. We coordinate pickups through third-party carriers, and large, high-quality donations may qualify for free pickup.
Do you have a public drop-off location?
No, not yet.
For Charities
How do we get started?
Complete our nonprofit application to begin the enrollment process.
How much does it cost to participate?
There is no fee to participate. We ask participating organizations to actively encourage their supporters, donors, employees, and community members to donate eligible devices. Because our program relies on donor participation, we partner with organizations that have engaged networks.
Is there an agreement to participate?
Yes. Before joining the program, your organization will sign a simple Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
How much funding will our organization receive?
Once your organization is approved, you'll receive a pricing schedule that lists the current donation values for eligible laptops, smartphones, and other reusable devices. Payments are based on the devices received and their resale value.
